Typhur Dome 2 Review
Everything about this air fryer is different: the way it looks, the way it works, even the way it cooks. The Typhur Dome 2 has genuinely taken us by surprise. It’s one of the most impressive kitchen appliances we’ve tested in a long time, and so here’s exactly why that is.
Design
The Typhur Dome 2 doesn’t really look like an air fryer. At a glance, it feels closer to a compact pizza oven, low, wide, and purposeful. In stepping away from the now-familiar vertical, dual-basket trend, Typhur has taken a different path entirely. The trade-off is obvious: it demands more worktop space. Measuring 50 × 39.6 × 26.2 cm, this is a broader, flatter appliance that makes its presence known.
That said, the build quality immediately justifies the footprint. This isn’t just surface-level refinement; it’s evident in the way the entire unit is put together. Take the aluminium alloy basket: sliding it in and out carries a reassuring weight, the handle feels rigid with no hint of flex or creak, and the internal seal is closer to what you’d expect from a premium oven than a typical air fryer. It’s dishwasher safe, though in practice the PFAS-free non-stick ceramic coating makes hand washing quick and largely effortless. There’s also a self-cleaning mode, designed to use heat to loosen grease and residue inside the unit, but we haven’t found this necessary to use so far.
The basket itself is generously sized at 5.3L, comfortably accommodating a 12-inch pizza within its 32 × 32 cm footprint. Depth comes in at 6 cm without the grill plate, or 5.2 cm with it in place, enough versatility for a wide range of cooking styles. We also appreciate the upward exhaust design, which avoids blasting hot air directly backwards onto your backsplash or wall.
The main body continues this theme of thoughtful design. Instead of the usual glossy black plastic, Typhur opts for a more robust, matte-finished casing in a lighter silver/grey tone, that we think looks more interesting, and far more forgiving in day-to-day use. It shrugs off splatters, minor knocks, and general kitchen wear with ease (including the occasional curious cat), while resisting fingerprints and grease marks far better than most. Just as importantly, it wipes clean without fuss, helping it maintain that 'just unboxed' look over time.
Controls & The Typhur App
The onboard touch controls are refreshingly intuitive; this is the kind of interface you can get to grips with straight out of the box. Temperature and timer adjustments remain fixed in the centre of the display, regardless of which mode you’re using, while the eight preset modes, toast, grill, air fry, preheat and more, are neatly arranged to either side. It’s a clean, logical layout that avoids the over complication we often see.
Yes, the Dome 2 is a ‘smart air fryer’, with it being Wi-Fi connected, pairing with a companion app available on iOS, Android and even Apple Watch. For us, the standout feature is simple but genuinely useful: notifications when food is ready. This is an air fryer that demands very little input once cooking begins, so being able to step away and be called back at the right moment, fits perfectly with how it’s designed to be used.
Beyond that, the app opens up a broader library of recipes and preset cooking modes like dehydrate, bake, roast, broil, griddle or frozen. Select one, and it sends the exact time and temperature settings directly to the Dome 2, and all that’s left is to hit play. There’s also an integrated AI tool, which feels surprisingly practical. You can input a handful of ingredients, or even just a rough dish idea, and it will generate a step-by-step recipe, complete with cooking instructions automatically synced to the air fryer. It’s a clever addition that leans into convenience without feeling gimmicky and we find ourselves using the app almost every time we use the Dome 2.
Cooking Results
Chips: If there’s one benchmark for any air fryer it’s chips, and the Typhur Dome 2 delivers the best we’ve experienced to date!
Yes, they come out crisp and golden on the outside, with soft, fluffy centres, but what really stood out is what doesn’t happen. The potatoes retain their size and weight remarkably well; there’s none of that familiar shrinkage or shrivelling you often get from moisture loss. Much of that seems to come down to how well the Dome 2 retains heat and seals during cooking. Plus, it takes the already quick cooking times we associate with air fryers and somehow makes them feel slow, turning out a full basket of chips in just 20 minutes.
In fact, we’d go as far as to say you can largely ignore Typhur’s recommended portion sizes. We’ve been consistently air frying 1kg of par-cooked chips in one go, with excellent results in around 20 minutes, no compromises, no overcrowding issues. Part of what makes this possible is the shape of the basket. We’ve always appreciated what the now-discontinued Tefal ActiFry tried to solve with its paddle system, mechanically turning food to ensure even cooking. But Typhur takes a more elegant approach. The wide, flat basket means chips naturally sit in a single, even layer rather than piling up. With heating elements positioned above and below, airflow is far more controlled and effective, circulating around and beneath the food without the need for any moving parts.
There’s also a noticeable difference in heat retention. Even after cooking, the basket stays hot for a surprisingly long time when left inside the unit, far longer than we’ve experienced with other air fryers. It’s a small detail, but one that reinforces just how efficiently the Dome 2 holds and distributes heat throughout the cooking process.
Coconut Cake: One thing we quickly noticed across all cooking modes is just how quiet the Dome 2 is, but it’s especially noticeable when baking. Noise levels do increase slightly with temperature, but it’s a very subtle shift. It generally hovers around 55dB, comfortably in line with Typhur’s claim of a 50% noise reduction compared to typical air fryers. In day-to-day use, it’s easily the quietest model we’ve tested.
To properly challenge it, we turned to Typhur’s in-app AI and asked it to generate a vegan recipe from scratch. Within seconds, it produced a coconut cake recipe complete with step-by-step instructions, then automatically pushed the recommended temperature and bake time over to the Dome 2’s bake mode. All we had to do was load the mixture in and press start. What followed felt almost too easy. In just 24 minutes, the cake was fully baked, rising evenly, with a soft, airy texture and a surprisingly moist centre. There was no need to rotate, check, or second-guess the process; it simply delivered.
It’s a great demonstration of how the Dome 2 goes beyond typical air frying. This isn’t just about crisping or reheating; it’s capable of proper baking, with results that feel closer to a conventional oven, only faster and far more convenient.
Toasted Sandwiches: With heating elements positioned both above and below, the Typhur Dome 2 naturally lends itself to being an excellent toast maker or griller, arguably a replacement for a toastie maker.
You get that proper cheese pull, rich, elastic and evenly melted throughout, without any cold spots or overdone edges. Just as importantly, the toasting itself is incredibly consistent. Both sides brown evenly at the same time, removing the need to flip halfway through.
We loaded ours with tomatoes, pesto and cheese, and everything cooked in balance. The bread crisped up nicely without becoming overly dry, the cheese melted perfectly and the tomatoes softened just enough to release flavour without turning soggy. It’s a small thing, but it highlights how well the Dome 2 manages heat from both directions.
Verdict
The Typhur Dome 2 isn’t just another air fryer; it’s a benchmark of what an air fryer should be, outperforming every model we’ve tested. It redefines what 'quick cooking' really means, which is no small feat in a category built around speed, all thanks to a design that distributes and retains heat with remarkable efficiency.
Then there’s the companion app that adds further modes and functionality, and we find ourselves using this on a regular basis. Often for that AI recipe tool that can, for example, build meals from whatever ingredients you have lying around, sending the exact cooking time and temperature straight to the Dome 2.
Chips come out perfectly crisp and fluffy without shrinking, cakes bake evenly in record time and sandwiches toast to café-level precision, all without fuss or constant supervision. It’s fast, precise and quietly brilliant, setting a new standard for what an air fryer can and should be.
