STIGA SWP 475 Push Sweeper Review
Sweeping pathways can be a chore, especially if you’re like us and have many decked areas that have pine tree coverage, with needles dropping all year round which require a great deal of regular collections. However, could the £429 STIGA SWP 475 be the speedy and easy solution we’ve been looking for to rid our outdoor areas of debris?
Design and Build Quality
The STIGA Push Garden Sweeper SWP 475 makes a strong first impression with its solid, no-nonsense German-made design, backed by a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. Built primarily from durable, weather-resistant plastic and sturdy metal components, it feels robust enough to handle regular outdoor use without showing immediate signs of wear. The wide 75cm sweeping path is supported by large, rugged 250 mm rubber wheels that glide smoothly over patios, driveways and uneven garden paths, ensuring a comfortable and stable experience across different surfaces. Its compact, upright frame make it easy to store in a shed or garage without taking up much space, and thoughtful touches like the shaped handle and accessible debris container reflect a real focus on user-friendliness.
The SWP 475 features two large 410mm counter-rotating brushes that can be adjusted across eight different height settings, allowing it to collect a variety of debris — from fine dust and dirt to larger items like leaves, paper and even cans. A large central brush underneath boosts collection performance further. With a sizeable 50-litre waste collector, it minimises the need for frequent emptying as we have never so far needed to empty multiple times during operation.

Cleaning Performance
Textured Uneven Asphalt Ground: We received a delivery of logs onto an old asphalt-sloped driveway. After putting the logs away into a woodstore, we were left with bits of bark, twigs and sawdust scattered across the rough surface.
We were intrigued to see how the STIGA sweeper would cope with this rough surface, made worse by it being on a slope. It required adjusting the cleaning heads’ heights throughout the task to accommodate different areas accordingly, so the sweeper didn’t ground itself when going up the slope. But overall the brushes’ design managed to spin the denser debris into the bin in 1-2 passes. The finer bits took a few more attempts, but the handle ergonomics make pushing the SWP 475 sweeper not at all difficult. One thing we noticed before anything else, is that we’re used to reviewing outdoor tools with a battery and motor, and thus creating noise, so one standout feature is that the SWP 475 is quiet in operation, helping make the overall experience pleasant and unobtrusive.

Decking: All of the decking areas around the studio succumb to plentiful piles of pine needles, and that’s all year round. Removing them is a regular task, which can be as frequent as 2-3 times a week in the autumn/winter periods, and this is a job for which we’ve always used a broom.
We were immediately impressed to see that the Sigma SWP 475 push garden sweeper is effective at driving the pine needles into its collection basket, as well as leaves and other debris, especially the smaller and dustier bits trapped in the grooves of the decking. Plus its 75cm cleaning path meant we could cover a large amount of area quickly. It doesn’t get the surface clean enough in just one pass, so it requires going over a few times in different directions for a pristine, debris-free finish, but this can be achieved. So it definitely succeeds at getting the job done and is easier than brushing on our decked boardwalk-style pathways. But on our decking area with furniture, it does require a bit more thought, as everything needs moving to accommodate the width of the push sweeper, as well as to go over the surfaces where the furniture is, because the sweeper isn’t slim enough to reach underneath. A nice surprise was to see it scrape the trapped pine needles along the very edges of the decking due to the brush design expanding further than the body itself.

Verdict
The STIGA SWP 475 Sweeper relies purely on human pushing power to get surfaces clean, but we were impressed by how little effort it actually requires — it feels light, easy to manoeuvre, and never overly strenuous to use. It can definitely be a genuinely useful addition to our outdoor cleaning toolkit and is suitable for anyone with larger outdoor spaces, driveways, or, like us, decking areas constantly under attack from pine needles and general debris. Its solid, German-made construction, adjustable brushes and generous waste collector work together to make even moderately challenging clean-up jobs feel far more manageable. While it doesn’t deliver a perfect finish in just one pass — particularly on textured surfaces or around obstacles like outdoor furniture — it still dramatically speeds up the process and delivers a noticeably cleaner result with minimal effort. In our experience, it shines when given a couple of passes in different directions, and its ability to sweep right up to the edges is a welcome bonus.
