Edifier Comfo C Earbuds Review
Personal wearable audio is shifting away from traditional earphones and earbuds, evolving into new designs like the Edifier Comfo C. These open-ear clip-on earbuds present an opportunity to impress with their unique approach to comfort and accessibility.
Design & Comfort
Housed in a bulbous plastic charging case (charges via USB-C), the Edifier Comfo C earbuds offer impressive battery efficiency. We’ve used them for weeks without needing a recharge, thanks to their outstanding standby battery performance. Edifier claims a collective total playback time of 28 hours with the charging case, and in our experience, this figure holds up—we've even slightly exceeded it.
The earbuds themselves feature a surprisingly flexible, squidgy design along their joints, which aids in achieving a more universal and comfortable fit. The clip-on mechanism is lightweight and secure, making them an excellent choice for extended wear, especially during activities where traditional earbuds might feel intrusive or fall out.
Pairing the Comfo C with multiple devices is seamless. While not quite at the instantaneous level of Apple’s AirPods, the Multipoint connectivity allows users to connect to and switch between two devices simultaneously with minimal hassle. They also automatically reconnect to the previously paired two devices, reducing the need for manual intervention.
Controls
The Comfo C earbuds forgo physical buttons in favour of touch controls, similar to the original AirPods. A double tap plays or pauses audio, while a triple tap on the left earbud skips back a track, and the right one skips forward.
Touch-sensitive controls can often be hit-or-miss, but Edifier has implemented them well here. The taps register consistently, making the user experience frustration-free use.
Sound Performance
Equipped with Bluetooth 5.4, the Comfo C offers reliable connectivity with an approximate range of 10 metres when paired with an iPhone or MacBook Pro. Performance remains stable across different floor levels, maintaining a solid connection throughout.
Acoustic quality is tremendous; podcasts and radio are a pleasure to hear through the Comfo C earbuds. Their emphasis on the spoken word is appealing and engaging, giving the audio a live persona that makes them a great choice for vocal-heavy content in music. In fact, there is a good amount of separation between vocal and instrumental elements. A mild soundstage is evoked due to the airy delivery of audio into the ear canal, allowing elements to breathe. When listening to percussion, different drum beats can be heard travelling vertically up and down each ear, creating a unique stereo effect that enhances the listening experience. Surprisingly, bass performance is deeper than expected for this style of earbud, providing a satisfying low-end presence that supports the mid-to-high frequency ranges. These frequencies maintain a balanced amount of headroom, making for an enjoyable musical experience, as demonstrated in 'Up To No Good' by The Hoosiers.
Across all genres, the Comfo C feels tuned for a friendly, accessible sound profile while supporting substantial volume levels—arguably too much. We suspect this is intentional for those moments when you want to drown out external noise with your own audio. However, this highlights the one glaring downside of this design: there is no noise cancellation, and because they don’t sit directly in the ear canal, they don’t block external sound either. This openness is precisely what some users appreciate, as it allows them to remain aware of their surroundings and communicate with others. On the other hand, it makes them less suitable for noisy environments like a crowded train or bus.
Verdict
With battery life that exceeds the claimed 28 hours, a volume range that meets more than most needs, and an airy yet full-bodied sound profile, the Edifier Comfo C earbuds carve out a niche for those seeking an alternative to traditional in-ear buds. While they’re not suited for noise-isolating scenarios, they excel in comfort, ease of use and audio clarity. For those who value open-ear awareness and a solid listening experience, the Comfo C is a compelling choice.
