Design & Comfort

The Beyerdynamic MMX 330 PRO headset sets a high bar in design with a rock-solid handmade build that inspires confidence. The ear cups, made of durable plastic, feel sturdy without a hint of creak, even under prolonged use. The hinges, crafted from metal, give a solid foundation that supports both the headset's longevity and its ease of use. We are very fond of the headband’s soft, foam cushioning, a genuine comfort feature; it feels like a gentle hug on top of the head, while the ample breathable ear cushions make long gaming sessions soothingly easy to endure. Altogether Beyerdynamic has managed to create a gaming headset that balances robustness and prolonged comfort with finesse.

We can’t complain about the cable length: at 2.5m, its generosity means that whether you are using it hooked up to a PS5 controller, plugged into the console or playing Nintendo Switch in hand-held mode, its wired character is not so noticeable. There’s also a controller on the cable which houses a slider for muting the mic and a volume adjustment wheel.

Microphone Clarity

Clear communication is crucial in multiplayer games, and the MMX 330 PRO’s condenser microphone doesn’t disappoint. Delivering clear voice transmission and minimising any ambient background noise that could otherwise disrupt gameplay, these don't use any software layers to do so but instead rely totally on hardware. Friends and teammates reported crystal-clear quality throughout gaming sessions. The result is a gaming experience where you know your voice is getting across without interference or static—a feature that’s just as valuable for casual team matches as it is for serious competitive gaming. One quirky drawback: the microphone is permanently attached, so there’s no option to remove it. However, given that these are wired headphones without wireless support, they’re less suited for on-the-go use anyway.

Sound Performance

When it comes to sound quality, the MMX 330 PRO showcases some standout versatility. For general music listening, we were surprised by the fact that out of the box they excel with dynamics that bring tracks like ‘Up To No Good’, by The Hoosiers, to life, delivering sharp acoustics and sizzling vocal separation that highlight each instrumental layer. With a clearness ranging through from low to high ranges, suggesting a more balanced sound style, these are a serious pair of headphones for audio playback. Throw EQ setting adjustments forward and these STELLAR.45 drivers are able to adapt really well to deeper bass and a broader mid-range if that’s the style of audio you want for something like an FPS game.

This Beyerdynamic MMX 330 PRO Headset truly shines in gaming scenarios. Its open back headphone style promotes a soundstage that is able to immerse you, with precise audio cues that allow you to gauge the direction and depth of in-game sounds, that, of course, do not suffer from the latency that can present itself with wireless options, which was particularly more noticeable with older versions of Bluetooth. Whether tracking the crack of distant gunfire or the soft rustle of an enemy lurking nearby, this headset lends a level of spatial awareness that amplifies immersion and can even give a competitive edge. It’s definitely one of the best gaming headsets we’ve ever tested.

Verdict

In the German made MMX 330 PRO, Beyerdynamic has crafted a £299 gaming headset that checks all the boxes: durable, immensely comfortable, and with a sound profile that’s highly adaptable. The headset's solid build and foam headband and ear cups make it a delight to wear for hours on end, while its powerful soundstage helps elevate the gaming experience along with its crystal-clear microphone. This is a great choice for gamers who need reliable communication and exceptional sound quality in a wired format - where, even in 2024, they have less latency and better quality than the latest wireless offerings.
