Benks Infinity Pro Magnetic iPad Stand Review
Are you on the lookout for a sleek and functional rotating/angle adjustable iPad stand that quite possibly could enhance your device's productivity performance and appearance? Well, the Benks Infinity Pro Magnetic iPad Stand could be that accessory. It offers a magnetic design that makes it easy to attach and detach your iPad, a durable aluminium construction, versatile compatibility with a range of iPad models and many angles. So we’ve taken a deep dive into the features and benefits of the Benks stand, and explore if it's a worthwhile investment for your iPad?
Design
As we examine the Benks Infinity Pro Magnetic iPad Stand, we can't help but notice the striking similarities it shares with the iconic iMac G4's floating screen design. Just like the one on the iMac G4, this stand features a sleek and minimalist aluminium construction, with a curved arm that allows rotation and adjustment of angle. The portability of the design, where the arm folds down, encourages you to include this device in your travels, and this feature also gets the arm out of the way when not being used in a work environment.
Upon first receiving the stand, the arm was quite stiff, but loosened from usage. We certainly have no qualms about build quality either, because on both build and appearance it teeters on being mistaken as an official Apple product when our iPad is proudly attached and graciously floating on our desk. Our stand is designed to be used with the iPad Pro 12.9: $95.99/£79.99. However it’s also available for the 11” Pro and iPad Air 4th & 5th generations.
In-use
Our Benks Infinity Pro Magnetic stand weighs in at 860g, which is around 200g more than the iPad Pro itself. What sets the Infinity Pro apart is the aluminium circular base, where the weight is reassuringly concentrated and to which the lighter arm is connected. A non-slip rubberised layer on the bottom of the base enables a full 360-degree rotation, requiring a relatively modest effort to operate it whilst it remains securely in place on all our wooden surfaces. A particularly useful feature in a studio and office environment where you can swivel to show your display to someone else.
Having an arm that is reminiscent of the functionality debuted with the iMac G4 display, has proved to be incredibly advantageous when you have a touch screen. Those who use their iPad Pros with their Apple Pencil will find the combination of reassuring magnetism, height adjustability, landscape & portrait views and tilt, to be a productivity super-booster. In particular, drawing with the arm fully lowered and iPad display tilted upwards, whilst the bottom is resting against a desk or hovering higher, creates a rock solid basis for comfortable design work; perhaps whilst using the Apple Pencil in Procreate or Pixelmator, for instance. Also, when raised it makes a very stable surface to work on, and we soon realised that it’s actually a really good display stand in itself, particularly in the sort of desktop configuration when used with an external mouse and keyboard alongside a Mac. However, there is one stand position which catches the Benks Infinity Pro out, and that’s when the bottom of the iPadis hovering just above a desk and is not directly rested on a surface; the lower hinge of the stand becomes weak, limiting its usefulness for artists who require an even more acute angle when drawing. Nevertheless, with its solid aluminium build and strong magnets, the Benks Infinity Pro Magnetic iPad Stand is one of the best stands available for the iPad Pro.
Overall
The iMac G4's iconic design has proven to be timeless and enduring. Its stand, in particular, has stood the test of time as an effective and notable feature. The Benks Infinity Pro Magnetic iPad Stand recognises the significance of the G4 stand by paying homage to its timelessness and effectiveness, offering full rotation, height adjustment and tilt. Its innovative magnetic design, durable construction, and versatility make it a productivity super-booster which has greatly enhanced our iPad experience in areas such as creating a comfortable easel position for drawing, or a nimble upright posture to be used as a second display alongside a Mac.
