Starbucks have introduced a seasonal Salted Caramel Cheesecake for Christmas.
There's no doubting that this cheesecake is a delight on the eye. A layer of salted caramel holds a scattering of finely chopped pecans onto the cake. It's all topped off with a drizzling of dark Belgium chocolate. The presentation can't be faulted and is bordering on a work of art.
However the texture and flavours underwhelm. The biscuit base doesn't have a good crunch and fails to melt in the mouth. It was too heavy and broke up when eating, causing quite a mess.
The actual toffee cheesecake filling was unimaginably dense and didn't really produce a strong toffee flavour. It was very bland and disappointing. A side helping of cream would have made it far more palatable.
The pecan and salted caramel flavours failed to come through. The overall flavour was boring and annoyingly repetitive. But the denseness of the toffee filling, made it profoundly rich.
I wouldn't recommend the the Salted Caramel Cheesecake on your next visit to Starbucks. It looks exceedingly better than it tastes.
