Oclean Flow Sonic Electric Toothbrush Review
Oclean is not a name we were previously familiar with, nonetheless the company is building a catalogue of oral products to rival the established names. We’ve been testing one of these products: the Oclean Flow toothbrush.
Design
Not noticeably evident in use, or when we first pulled this one out of the box, is the fact that the Oclean Flow electric toothbrush is around 2cm longer than any other toothbrush we’ve previously reviewed. This is not an issue at all in usage, but does mean it has to be stored sideways within our toothbrush draw. In the hand the smooth stain finished enclosure has plenty of grip and it’s a smart looking design.
A very easy to remove replaceable toothbrush head reveals a metal driver that creates the sonic vibrations for cleaning; it's a solid construction and is connected to a brushless motor. The IPX7 all body waterproof design is clean and straight to the point, with a single button that powers the brush and toggles through the different modes. These include morning mode, night mode, standard cleaning mode, whitening mode and gentle mode. Really speaking, most people will just want to have it in standard mode, but every time the toothbrush is turned on it requires cycling through 3 modes to get it to ‘normal mode’, and to turn the toothbrush off a another press after a few seconds is required. This part of the design seems somewhat counter-intuitive and would be better served with some kind of memory function.
Charging & Battery
The first time we needed to charge the Oclean Flow toothbrush is when we realised it didn’t come with a base, but instead we found the silicone flap on the base that uncovers a USB-C port where it can be charged. This does make charging the toothbrush a bit more cumbersome than a typical Oral-B affair, where you would have a base which it neatly pops onto. Having the Oclean Flow toothbrush laying on a desk, or worse on the floor because you don’t have a long enough USB-C cable (short one supplied in box), is only a mild irritant and this is because the battery life is fantastic. It goes on and on, lasting for over 100 days of equivalent single usage brushing. This is remarkable and does seem like magic against even the latest and greatest from Oral-B, which is the iO Series 9 brush we recently reviewed.
Cleaning
Like most electric toothbrushes this has an automatic 2 minute timer function to alert when you have finished brushing and also 30 second reminders for when you have cleaned each corner of your mouth. This rectangular all purpose sonic toothbrush head with maximum speeds of 38,000 RPM is quiet in operation and gentle in bristle style. Paired with the sonic vibrational style for cleaning, it performs strongly in removing plaque from teeth, gums and tongue. In fact, it’s a better performer than the similarly styled Oral-B Pulsonic toothbrush discontinued a few years ago. Getting into the tight upper areas of your mouth, and into the corners, is not all that challenging due to its tapered nature, and the brush head is effective in cleaning gaps and comprehensively getting into the molars. It doesn’t require much user pressure and gives the impression of gliding over the teeth more than other sonic toothbrush designs we’ve previously used. The toothbrush head is also enduring; the bristles are not yet showing signs of bending or wearing from our continual use.
Verdict
This unfamiliar brand has pleasantly surprised us with their great Oclean Flow electric toothbrush. For those that prefer the rectangular style of brush head and the sonic method of cleaning teeth, this one is very effective at removing plaque and is actually preferred, even over the Oral-B sonic designs. The only mild annoyance is the number of button presses required to get into the mode used regularly, some sort of memory would be nice. Amazon UK | Amazon USA
